IMG 9946Saturday, April 12, 30 people competed for the best Pesto in Paris. It was the first preliminary competition valid for the upcoming sixth edition of the Championship in 2016. The day was beautiful, in addition to preliminary competition - the first time with 30 people at the same time - there were tastings of Ligurian products of the highest quality and a cooking class held by Maurizio Pinto, chef at Genoa restaurant Voltalacarta.

alfonsina pesto winner 2014 LOW

Alfonsina Trucco is the winner of the fifth edition of the Genoa Pesto World Championship. The World Champion 2014 is 87 years old, lives in Montoggio near Genoa, and prepares Pesto using an old family mortar. She passed the first selection (from 100 competitors to 10 finalists) and then won against the other nine finalists. At the second place Angelo Vanagolli and third Candida Grosso.

Marchio-R copiaThe prestigious international event - now in its fifth edition -  will be held on Saturday, March 29 at Palazzo Ducale, Genoa, starting at about 10am.

100 competitors, from around the world, will face in the preparation of Genovese Pesto with high-quality ingredients and traditional instruments such as mortar and pestle.

30 international judges and guests, VIPs, journalists and wine bloggers.

PiccolocoroLollipop

Forty children will sing in Genoese dialect the anthem of Pesto World Championship written by Buio Pesto.
The Piccolo Coro Lollipop is made by children between (5-13 age) who love to sing and get together in the name of music. They are directed by the singer Antonella Serà, director of A.L.C.A.demia music school.

IMG 3234Yesterday afternoon the students of State Vocational School for Tourism and Catering 'Marco Polo' (Genoa) competed in the preparation of mortar made Pesto. All Pesto were very good, but only two won the participation to the Pesto World Championship: Giorgio Cuffari and Simone Vesuviano. Here some pictures!
