Many opportunities for foreigners!
First of all competitors coming from foreign countries will be hosted Friday and Saturday 18th and 19th of April for free in our best hotels in Genova thanks to Associazione Alberghieri Genova!
And for those who desire to better know and visit our city and our region, there are many possibilities to participate to guided tours during the Championship week end!

The second Pesto World Championship will be held in Genoa's historic Palazzo Ducale, Salone del Maggior Consiglio. 100 competitors from all over the world will prepare Genoese pesto exclusively with a pestle and mortar, using only authentic, genuine ingredients. The Championship is open to both professional and amateur cooks. It is possible to subscribe on our website www.pestochampionship.it – section Championship2008/Registrations.

Grazie alla collaborazione con la Compagnia dei Sapori, in occasione della manifestazione “Novara e Sapori”, mostra mercato dei prodotti tipici piemontesi e di altre regioni, l’Associazione Palatifini organizza una gara di pesto genovese al mortaio valida per il Secondo Campionato Mondiale di Pesto Genovese al Mortaio che si terrà a Genova il 19 aprile 2008.
La gara riservata agli abitanti del Piemonte avrà luogo domenica 20 gennaio alle ore 11.00 negli spazi della mostra mercato dei prodotti tipici in Piazza Duomo. Il vincitore avrà il diritto di partecipare gratuitamente al Campionato 2008.

Il progetto è promosso dall’Assessorato al Commercio del Comune di Novara e ideato da Totem Eventi in collaborazione con l’Associazione Nazionale La Compagnia dei Sapori.

Our congratulations to the 2008 Pesto World Champion: the young American cook James D. Bowien!

James works as cook at a famous restaurant in San Francisco specialized in Ligurian cuisine and has been trained by the Genoese chief cook Paolo Laboa. James has been able to conquer the jury preparing the best pesto among 100 and nosing out two Genoese competitors – Mauro Canepa and Alfonsina Trucco, respectively the second and the third.

So, our golden pestle leaves Genoa to go to California, the demonstration that Genoese pesto is really international! We will wait 2010, the third edition of the World Championship, to know where in the world it will go next!
