L’VIII^ edizione del Campionato Mondiale di Pesto, si svolgerà sabato 20 marzo in forma totalmente digitale per ragioni di sicurezza e per consentire l’adesione di tutti i concorrenti. L’Associazione Palatifini e la Camera di Commercio di Genova, con i partner istituzionali Regione Liguria e Comune di Genova, confermano l’evento in versione digitale: un segnale di resilienza contro la congiuntura negativa causata dalla pandemia. La manifestazione avrà inizio alle ore 10 con la diretta in streaming da Palazzo Ducale su piattaforma Zoom dei finalisti, che verranno contattati in questi giorni per confermare la loro disponibilità. A coloro che non potranno collegarsi in diretta, a causa del fuso orario o altri impedimenti, sarà consentito di riprendersi tramite smartphone, con l’aiuto di amici e parenti, mentre producono il pesto con il mortaio, a casa o sul posto di lavoro, nei giorni precedenti sabato 20 marzo. Gli elaborati amatoriali saranno montati in un video che verrà trasmesso durante la gara in streaming. A tutti i partecipanti in diretta e in remoto verranno inviati i prodotti necessari per fare il Pesto Genovese e i gadget tradizionali del Campionato, che sarà obbligatorio indossare. L’esibizione verrà salutata dalle autorità a cui seguirà il tradizionale inno del Campionato cantato dal coro di bambini di una scuola genovese. Durante il tempo di produzione del pesto al mortaio (circa mezzora) verranno inserite animazioni e immagini di Genova e delle sue eccellenze non solo alimentari. Il pubblico potrà interagire inviando messaggi e rispondendo a quesiti durante l’intero periodo rendendo la manifestazione, per quanto possibile, la festa popolare che è sempre stata. I “vincitori” di questa edizione straordinaria saranno simbolicamente il Pesto Genovese stesso, ambasciatore numero Uno della città (nel 2020 è stato citato nei media e social di tutto il mondo oltre 172.000 volte di cui il 62% all’estero), e il suo Campionato, manifestazione di unità e condivisione universale dei valori della qualità della vita e della tradizione. Quando le condizioni lo consentiranno la gara verrà ripetuta in presenza per designare il prossimo campione. In questa edizione sono previsti tre eventi collaterali. Il primo sarà la conference-call di alcuni chef genovesi, italiani e stranieri sul pesto genovese, il secondo è la premiazione del concorso internazionale “Pestochampionship Mascotte” organizzato dall’Assessorato al Commercio e Grandi Eventi del Comune di Genova, il terzo, è rappresentato dalla tradizionale assegnazione della Targa di riconoscimento dell’associazione “A Compagna” per la persona che “pesta da più lontano”.

The eighth edition of the Pesto World Championship will take place on Saturday 20 March in a totally digital form for safety reasons and to allow the participation of all competitors.

The Palatifini Association and the Genoa Chamber of Commerce, with the institutional partners of the Liguria Region and the Municipality of Genoa, confirm the event in a digital version: a sign of resilience against the negative economic situation caused by the pandemic. The event will start at 10 am with the live streaming of the finalists from Palazzo Ducale on the Zoom platform, who will be contacted in these days to confirm their availability. Those who cannot connect live, due to the time zone or other impediments, will be allowed to recover via smartphone, with the help of friends and relatives, while making pesto with a mortar, at home or in the workplace, in the days preceding Saturday 20 March. The amateur submissions will be edited in a video that will be streamed during the race. All the participants live and remotely will be sent the products needed to make Genoese Pesto and the traditional gadgets of the Championship, which will be mandatory to wear. The performance will be greeted by the authorities, followed by the traditional hymn of the Championship sung by the children’s choir of a Genoese school. During the production time of the mortar pesto (about half an hour) animations and images of Genoa and its excellences, not just food, will be inserted. The public will be able to interact by sending messages and answering questions throughout the entire period, making the event, as far as possible, the popular festival it has always been.

The “winners” of this extraordinary edition will symbolically be Pesto Genovese itself, the city’s number One ambassador (in 2020 it was mentioned in the media and social networks around the world over 172,000 times, 62% of which abroad), and its Championship, manifestation of unity and universal sharing of the values of quality of life and tradition. When conditions allow, the race will be repeated in presence to designate the next champion. In this edition there are three collateral events. The first will be the conference call of some Genoese, Italian and foreign chefs on Genoese pesto, the second is the award ceremony of the international competition “Pestochampionship Mascotte” organized by the Department of Commerce and Major Events of the Municipality of Genoa, the third is represented from the traditional assignment of the “A Compagna” association recognition plaque for the person who “tramples from further away”.
