Dear friends of Genoese Pesto,
2015 has been a year full of activities. From February 3 to December 22 Palatifini Cultural Association organized 41 official events (if we do not count holidays, it was almost one event a week!): conferences, demonstrations, Pesto competitions, seminars. From the Basque Country to Poland and to Northern Ireland, from Genoa and its hinterland to Milan and Florence. At EXPO, called by the Liguria Region and the Chamber of Commerce, we organized three highly successful events including a preliminary competition won by a citizen of Togo (in second place a person from Uruguay). We gave the patronage to the last international competition of ADI (Industrial Design Association) regarding new design for mortars and pestles. In october 2015 we also presented the application to candidate the use of mortar in the preparation of Pesto as UNESCO best practices to the Italian National Commission of UNESCO.
2016 will be a year not less important and we hope equally lucky. In March 7 an international conference will be held in Genoa regarding the use of mortar and pestle by different communities in Europe and the Mediterranean area, and in April 16 will debut the 6th edition of the Genoa Pesto World Championship (requests for preliminary competitions in Italy and abroad for the next three months are every day more and more).
All this work is done thanks to volunteers and public and private sponsors and it is "powered" by the enthusiasm and participation of all those who love Genoese Pesto, who appreciate the culture of good food and conviviality, and who defend the tradition of mortar and pestle and its ancient knowledge.
To all friends of Genoa Pesto World Championship we wish Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! And to the Pesto champions of every age, sex and profession we remember to train!!
