Thursday March 29th 2014: Fifth Genoa Pesto World Championship.
Genoa Pesto World Championship is held in Genoa’s historic Palazzo Ducale. The competition is organized by ‘Palatifini’, a cultural and gastronomic association, whose name means ‘Refined Palates’.
100 competitors from all over the world will prepare Genoese Pesto exclusively with a pestle and mortar, using only traditional, authentic and genuine ingredients. The competition is open to everyone: professionals and amateur cooks. It is possible to subscribe to the championship through the appropriate registration form. Winners of the preliminary competitions have reserved place to participate.
The champion in charge is Sergio Muto, born in Calabria, who lives in Germany since 1976, where he runs a deli and organizes courses of Italian cuisine. Past editions have been won – in order – by: Luciana Parodi, Genoa housewife and passionate about traditional cooking, James D. Bowien young American chef, sous chef at a renowned Ligurian restaurant in San Francisco, and Federico Ferro, pharmacist from Sestri Levante, with a great passion for cooking.
