Saturday April 16th 2016: Sixth Genoa Pesto World Championship

100 competitors, 10 finalists

Genoa Pesto World Championship is held in Genoa’s historic Palazzo Ducale. The competition is organized by ‘Palatifini’, a cultural and gastronomic association, whose name means ‘Refined Palates’.

100 competitors from all over the world will prepare Genoese Pesto exclusively with a pestle and mortar, using only traditional, authentic and genuine ingredients. The competition is open to everyone: professionals and amateur cooks. It is possible to subscribe to the championship through the appropriate registration form. Winners of the preliminary competitions have reserved place to participate.

The champion in charge is Alfonsina Trucco, 86 years old, from Montoggio, near Genoa where she prepares Pesto using an old family mortar since she was 6 years old. Past editions have been won – in order – by: Luciana Parodi, Genoa housewife and passionate about traditional cooking, James D. Bowien young American chef, sous chef at a renowned Ligurian restaurant in San Francisco, Federico Ferro, pharmacist from Sestri Levante with a great passion for cooking, and Sergio Muto, born in Calabria, who lives in Germany since 1976, where he runs a deli and organizes courses of Italian cuisine
