Federico Ferro is the winner of the third World Pesto Championship just ended in Sala del Maggior Consiglio at Palazzo Ducale in Genoa.
He’s 41 from Genoa and he is a chemist in Sestri Levante, he has participated with the old family mortar “pushed by his great passion for the cuisine”. In a hall perfumed by basil he has received the Golden Pestle as winner by the journalist Bruno Pizzul, the unforgettable Italian sports voice.
The ten finalists, the ten best pestlers of the world, have been chosen among the hundred competitors from the morning contest. Among them also Guido Frosi, Ciro Mennella, Andrea Cogorno and Patrizia Cicala from Genoa, Luigi Guelfo from Arenano, Alex Ravaioni from La Spezia, Sergio Rocca from Mignanego and Inako Royo from San Sebastian, Pays Bascos, the only stranger who has take part in the finale among the sixteen arrived from all over the world.
Among other collateral initiatives in which the public has been involved it’s unforgettable the non competitive baby contest that has come before theChampionship: forty pestler children side by side judged by a “severe” under 12 jury.
The Championship and the preliminatories are organized by the Palatifini Association, whose office is in Genoa and whose aim is to promote the pleasures of the table and a good quality life.
The appointment for the next edition is in 2012 but the preliminatories have already started in Italy and abroad.
