Mario Mazzilli, craftsman from San Bartolomeo al Mare, won the preliminary compettion of Genova Pesto World Championship which took place on Saturday 11 September in the events area of ​​Villa Scarsella, as part of “Aromatica, fragrances and flavors of the Ligurian Riviera ”(Eighth edition, Diano Marina, 10-12 September), the great exhibition dedicated to basil, aromatic herbs, the excellence of agri-food and food and wine, and typical local products.

He passed a fierce batch of 10 competitors, who prepared the best Ligurian recipe in 20 minutes with love and dedication, using the 7 traditional ingredients: Genoese Basil DOP, Italian pine nuts, Vessalico garlic, Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, Fiore Sardo DOP, sea salt from the salt pans of Trapani and DOP Riviera Ligure extra virgin olive oil.

Massimo Morini, leader of Buio Pesto, singer, conductor and director, who won the 2013 Sanremo Festival as conductor for Antonio Maggi, sang the official anthem of the Pesto Championship.

“Aromatic, scents and flavors of the Ligurian Riviera” is the great exhibition dedicated to basil, aromatic herbs, the excellence of agri-food and food and wine, and typical local products. It is held every year at the end of April and again this year it has been moved to September due to the health emergency.
