The Palatifini Association and Genova Pesto World Championship for the first time made a stop in the Middle East and in particular in Manama, Bahrain. The event was organized as part of the Week of Italian Cuisine in the World, thanks to the organization of Alessandro Pilloni, recently appointed by the Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci, Ambassador of Genoa in the World, thanks to the Municipality of Genoa, represented for the opportunity from Barbara Grosso, Councilor for Cultural Policies, Education Policies, Youth Policies, the Italian Embassy in Bahrain and the Palatifini Association, represented by President Roberto Panizza, creator and organizer of the Championship, former Ambassador of Genoa in the World. The reigning champion Emiliano Pescarolo did the demonstration of Genoese Pesto in front of an attentive and numerous public in the splendid location inside the Bahrain Fort.

Ten young Bahraini chefs have ventured into the test in an evening dedicated to the Mediterranean diet and tasting of Italian specialties. The winner will come to Genoa next year for the Championship Final.

The Italian ambassador in Bahrain, Domenico Bellato, the official one, welcomed Pilloni’s idea with great enthusiasm, because through this event he brings a bit of Italian spirit to a country where a small community of our compatriots lives. The objective, of course, is also to promote the Ligurian products in Bahrain, starting with the pesto but also with many other specialties of our kitchen.
