US pesto competitors are preparing their mortar and pestles for the first-ever US preliminary competition round in pesto making to be held at Vincenti Restaurant in Brentwood on Wednesday the 24th of February beginning at 4:30 pm.

The winner from the Los Angeles competition will then go on to compete at the 3rd Pesto World Championship on March 20th, 2010 in Genoa, Italy (the birthplace of Pesto) with all expenses paid.

Before the competition, a “pesto” demo with stories about ingredients, traditions and curiosities. Competitors will then be treated to a 4 course pesto-themed tasting dinner specially created for the event by Chef Mastronardi of Vincenti Ristorante.
