In March, Genoa Pesto World Championship will celebrate its seventh edition. Only ten years ago, old family mortars were unusual or used as flower pots. Today the use of marble mortar is back and play a king role among kitchen objects.
Open to both professional and amateur cooks, as long as adults, 100 competitors will be registered on the basis of the date and time of registration (50 from Liguria, 25 from the rest of Italy and 25 from abroad) or because they won qualifying competitions (today, around thirty). Jury is composed by 30 Italian and foreign judges, selected on the basis of skills and role in the food universe (restaurateurs, tasters, specialized journalists, food experts) and will be coordinated by the President of the Palatifini Cultural Association Roberto Panizza.
Among the side events, the “Children’s Championship” is confirmed with the Piccolo Coro Lollipop that will play the National Anthem of the Championship, the “Pesto Week of the Ligurian Restaurateurs” and the “Pesto Party”. This latest initiative includes a display of finger foods by the restaurateurs of Genova Gourmet. Also in this edition, space will be given to “Information and tasting corners” of the main Ligurian consortia of the agri-food sector.
